In 2016, Governor Cuomo signed into law New York's Paid Family Leave benefit, becoming the 4th state in the nation with this type of law. The benefit, effective January 1, 2018, is mandatory for ALL private sector employers. It imposes a requirement for job protection and compensation during which an employee leaves to care for a sick relative or to bond with a newborn or a newly adopted infant (mothers and fathers).
